Abstract

WAVE COUPLING ACROSS MANY SCALE HEIGHTS IN THE WOUNDED SUN

  P. Cally, Monash University, paul.cally@monash.edu

Active regions and other strong magnetic field concentrations open "windows" in the Sun's surface that allow the internal p-modes to escape into the atmosphere. I will review the processes by which this occurs, and the related coupling between wave types that then occurs. I will then show how a combination of these events can explain the acoustic halos seen in Doppler surrounding sunspots.
