  PROPERTIES OF MASS MOTIONS AROUND SUNSPOTS

Mass motions in the vicinity of sunspots that are guided by magnetic field lines manifest themselves in the form of the photospheric Evershed flow and the chromospheric inverse Evershed flow. We studied the chromospheric inverse Evershed flow using simultaneous spectropolarimetric observations of the chromospheric Ca II 854.2 nm line and the photospheric Fe I 1.56 micron lines. We present preliminary results about the temperature and velocity structure of the corresponding flow channels. We find indications for standing shocks at the inner foot points of the flow channels that are compatible with a supersonic siphon flow scenario.
